|
BRIEF HISTORY
|
| Due to phenomenal
growth of small scale and tiny industries, producing
large number and variety of products where emphasis
was given on production a it used to be seller’s
market and what ever produced, was sold. With the changing
techno-economic scenario and economic liberalization
in the country, the lateral growth in all the sectors
brought competition and awareness in SSI towards quality.
The necessity for testing raw materials and finished
good in the laboratories was felt. In view of the financial
constraints faced by the small scale units to establish
full fledged laboratory of its own for testing their
products conforming to National/International standards
and with the background as stated above, Govt. Of India,
on the recommendations of the Estimate Committee of
the Parliament of India, decided to set up 4 Regional
Testing Laboratories one each in Northern, Southern,
Eastern & Western Region of the country.
The Regional Testing Centre (NR), New Delhi, one of
the above four laboratories was set up in mid ‘70s.
